Visionary Bets on the Big Red Machine

In case you needed further evidence as to the visionary thinking of the WagerWire founding team, look no further than the NL Central Winner bet placed by Zach and Travis prior to the start of the MLB season.

At +6000 no one gave the lowly Reds a chance to compete in a division loaded with the Cards, Brewers, and improving Cubs team. After the Pirates hot start, the Reds looked even more doomed to finish at the bottom of the division yet again.

Heads spun when two of the WagerWire founders threw $100 bets on Travis’s hometown club. Call it blind loyalty, or betting with the heart, but it sure didn’t seem like an advisable wager. After the season’s first month, that rung true, with their $100 future tanking 50%. And then, coinciding with the call-up of rookie phenom Elly De La Cruz, the Reds season turned. 12 wins in a row, coupled with a Pirates return to earth, Cinci shot up to the top of the standings.

As of this past Sunday, the Big Red Machine sat at +250 to win the Central and the ticket value was all the way up to $1,941. Where else can one find such a return in just 3 months time??

Time will tell whether the Reds can keep it together, but things are looking sweet in Cinci and sweet for the boys at WW.
